Most of the time I like a challenge. No use living one day after the next with a the same routine and predictable outcomes. That isn’t living, it’s boring.
Something that is new, exciting and spontaneous is the kind of spice that makes every day an adventure. New people, experiences, or opportunities brighten up life just like fresh air rejuvenates a tired soul.
All of us who pump iron would regularly cheer each other on with the slogan, “No pain, no gain.” Inherent in reaching new heights of achievement in weight training is pain. Muscles tear and rebuild into something bigger and stronger. The path through hurt does not have a short cut.
All of life knows a similar dynamic. When the fear of discomfort, pain, or inconvenience looms over us, we tend to choose the path of least resistance. That’s where life and wisdom must confer and discern what is best. Sometimes choosing what is more difficult is the route to a life worth living.
Risk is the component of life that gives the deepest levels of satisfaction. I received an invitation to fill in for a regular radio host again. My last and first experience was really fun. But, I didn’t know what was in store for me. Now, there is a risk.
The telephone rang this past Friday. A church leader in the area was calling. Their pastor is resigning and they need help to fill in their pulpit. That’s another risk to add something else to a jam packed schedule.
News never lets up these days on our financial stress due to our economic collapse. Add to that the heated Presidential election. Major decisions at work all call for a high degree of risk.
People are a part of everyone of these risks. Needs that people have are all a part of decisions related to each of these challenges. None of them makes me feel comfortable. In fact each makes me feel uncomfortable.
That tension in life is what makes life worth living. I never want to just take it easy. Instead I love my days that stretch me, push me, excite me, and give hope. Dreams thrive when possibilities decorate every lane that calls for anyone to step out and take a risk.
All of this discussion reminds about faith. Trusting in God for the tough times is exhilarating. Are you looking forward to what tomorrow may bring? Now, that’s what it’s like to really live!

Most of us really believe this but sometimes just need a friend or two that will prod on the journey. Left to ourselves we too often slip into being too safe. Keep on encouraging so many, Stephanie. You’re doing great touching so many lives!
