decollage_A330_airfranceIn the routine of my air travel my frequent flyer miles keep adding up.  When I schedule a flight, I anticipate planning my schedule around expected departures and arrivals.  Over the hundreds of thousands of miles that I have flown, I have never experienced any close calls where my safety was in jeapardy.

Recently, along with the whole world I was saddened by the tragic news of Air France 447.  News of this disaster was broadcast around the world.  It was the headline feature of online news sources.  Radio programs led their broadcasts with the alert of a missing plane.

Over the Atlantic Ocean this plane with hundreds of souls disappeared.  Its flight path led it through an area off the coast of Brazil that is known for turbulent weather.  No one knows what happened.   All we know is that 224 lives are missing.  Thousands more will be affected.  People feared the worst.

Life is tenuous.  None of knows when God will call us home.  So much of what we do is normal, routine, and scheduled.  When there is a tragedy in that life plan and a sudden stop to the progress of our travel, we are stunned.

This story ended consistent with evidence of a crash: all were lost.  It was the worst airplane disaster in the last eight years.  That kind of awful record is one that no one finds comforting.  Rather it brought the entire world to a sobering pause.

We all grieved.  Sorrow is one of the universal languages of the human race.  No one lives on this planet forever.  These moments remind us that we should all be looking for something more.  Is there life beyond this one that we know?

As humans we are restricted by our limitations.  Some things are way beyond our abilities.  We are clearly vulnerable.

But, God offers us a guarantee that is not susceptible to a tragic end.  While this life is limited, the next life can be guaranteed.  Jesus Christ made that possible by His death and resurrection.  Anyone, even each one of us who are a part of the bloggosphere, can have this certainty.

The shock of that tragic plane crash is well out of the news.  But, those who lost loved ones will continue to ache.  In that tender moment consider the offer of the Savior.  He guarantees new life by trusting in His sacrifice for all.  Trust Him.
