anxietyI wanted to leave but the powers-that-be wouldn’t let me go.  Was it a misunderstanding?  Could computers send a reservation into cyberspace?  Were there influences beyond this world that kept me from my appointed task?

We had arrived at the airport in plenty of time.  Our arrival put us at the terminal two hours and twenty minutes early.  Yeah, I’m a stickler for being on time.  Some say I’m neurotic.  I vehemently disagree with that assessment!  But, again they might be right, they might be right, they might be right…

Do you remember being shocked by foreboding news?  I tried three times to enter my information on their self-check-in system.  Finally, the man in the red jacket came and tried to help us.  He could not find any information either.  He passed us on to the desk clerk.  That was the first pass-off.

The desk agent was frazzled.  She had just faced a problem with the previous passenger.  That ended unsatisfactorily for the client.  He was on his way to Sao Paulo, Brazil.  They would only confirm his flight from Detroit to Altanta.  His last comment was, “I don’t want to get stuck in Atlanta.”

Two times the desk agent got stuck with our reservation.  Both times she left her post to consult with someone else far away from the desk where we were.  Finally, she asked us to go to another desk.  Her disheartening words, ”I can’t help you anymore.”

“Anymore?” I thought.  She never helped us at all.  In fact as I looked at the time all she did was tie up nearly an hour of our precious time.

The news at the trouble-shooter’s desk was just as bad.  An agent asked what we needed.  I told her.  She told me to wait in line for the next agent.  That was the second pass-off.

Finally, Charles helped us.  We joked with him about being the miracle worker.  But, even that wasn’t enough to put us on a plane.

We offered to pay for two seats.  He took our credit card and scanned the high priced tickets.  But, right after the transaction was completed he groaned and said that the plane no longer had seats available.

After every option was exhausted and time had long expired, we walked away from the desk and headed back home.  We really tried to fly but could not.  Anxious?  Me? Naw, I was on time for a flight that never took off.
