I am in love with life and want each day to count for eternity. My life is blessed with a wonderful wife, six amazing children and very special friends that I love with all of my heart.
Before you blink at the six kids, all three of our children are married. We love our in-law children so much that we count them as our own, hence the number six. We have a ball every time we get together.
Don’t blink about my inclusion of friends either. Besides family, friends are an amazing gift from God. When we can be real with them and still have them love us anyway, what could be more fantastic? I treasure those very special lives that love me and let me love them. It is a blessing to know that friendships touch my heart and ignite a special fire that convinces me that God, Jesus and heaven are real.
Friends are one of life’s greatest blessings from the Lord. The internet makes this treasure even more amazing. Since connecting with the world through cyberspace, I have not only been able to reconnect with old friends, strengthen bonds with longtime friends but also discover new friends over the world wide web. My life is much richer because of the ever-expanding world of friendships. I thank God for every one of them.
I suppose that I am a thinker. My days start early and run relatively late. Rarely is there a moment that passes where I am not noodling over something or someone.
The outdoors is a great love. My interests are bicycling, fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting, and motorcycling. Everything revolves around the greatest love of my life, Jesus Christ.
I am privileged to have a calling in ministry where I teach God’s Word to anyone and everyone that will lend me their ear. In various venues and occasions of all kinds I love meeting the family of God and enjoying their fellowship. Honoring His name both in great times and bad is the only way to live!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. This blog has only one purpose. I would like to know that you stopped in for a few moments and found encouragement to continue on your spiritual pilgrimage. Tell others who might need a little boost in life to stop by too. There’s always room for all and the water is cool and refreshing. There’s no place on earth I’d rather be than spending a few moments with you and pressing in a little courage into your heart.
Would you like to connect?
Eager for HIS Return!

Dear Dr. Fong. Thank you for coming to I.S.I. in K.C. MO. today. I got to hear you and I was greatly moved. I needed to hear what you had to say. I especially could relate to a stressed person. After hearing you tell us about some of the reasons why we are stressed I could not help but ask the Lord to forgive me. I have not had a close relationship with God and that is the beginning of lots of lesser problems. I have not been the spiritual leader I should have been to my wife and my children. I think because of that my wife has no respect for me and my children think I am a joke. I am stressed so bad my doctor has been telling me for a long time that I have to get rid of my stress. Most of it comes from my marriage. The rest from my business and I think a lot of it comes from the fact that I know I am not walking with the Lord as I should. All I could do was cry out to God for help. Some how I need to repent and start a new life with Him and my wife and family. I am so glad you came and I was able to hear you. Keep up the good work. Bob

I thought I had visited your blog site before, but I guess I was just reading articles that you had sent me links to. Now that I’ve actually seen “the real thing”, I’m amazed at how full and rich it is. Great job! It’s going to take some time to catch up on the stories that I’m behind on. I’ll get right on it . . .

I just read “John Woke Up.” That’s pretty amazing…I didn’t know that anyone could walk around while in an induced coma. How blessed we are to have such advanced medicine these days! I’m glad John is returning to health. I’m sure you and his other family and friends will never forget those two weeks, even though he can’t remember them.
Blessings,

Well, hello Bruce (or should I say DR. FONG)
This is a voice from the past. A friend sent me the link to your blog. I’m not very computer literate, I know mainly the basics. I had to respond to your blog. I’m sure you remember Jon and Joanne DeBondt.
I, Joanne, work at Fairway Drug in Lynden, Washington, and have for the last 19 years. Your articles on watch repair struck a chord with me, as I replace batteries and bands on a regular basis as a free service to our customers that purchase them from us. Word spreads rapidly when people find out there is a free service available :o) .
I haven’t checked all your links out yet, I just received an email from a friend, Sandy Hallberg, that had a link to your blog. I couldn’t believe it so I jumped right on this opportunity to contact you. Our youngest, Kraig, is 34, so that means it was that long ago that you made what was, I believe, your first visit to a church member in the maternity ward, post-delivery, and called on me. :o)
Well, the Lord Bless you, Bruce, and I will be praying for you. I hope to be in touch with you through email soon.
Looking for His return,
Joanne DeBondt

Dear Dr. Fong,
Your sermon today at Church was right on with what is going on in my life right now. When you talk about being accepted for who we are unconditionally, it seems like a tunnel dream with no end in site. I just found that God loves me no matter what and you helped me to see that. Thank you and God Bless.

I’ve volunteered to coordinate with guys at my Free Methodist church in Jackson, Mi for attending the April ironsharpensiron day conference in Lansing. Can you provide me with a flavor of your message to the audience? I wish to promote, but don’t have anything other than that you are scheduled to speak.

Hi Edward, I likely will teach two seminars. One will be specifically designed for pastors on Expository Preaching: Consistency and Authority. Also, I likely will teach a seminar on Managing Stress in a Very Stressful World. When I speak at the Plenary session I will speak on “Make the Opportunity to Advance a Life of Faith”. See you in Lansing!

Hi, Bruce
Your avatar shows a man standing in front of Mt. Rushmore. We are in the Black Hills, and I was wondering if you have connections here? The picture of the path ahead with the pair of walking legs on your most recent post is great, btw. Excellent visual.

Hi Cindy! No connections in the Black Hills. I was there in 2007 for the Sturgis “Christian week” of the bike rally. My buddies and I stopped at Mt. Rushmore and that’s when I had my photo snapped. I figured that since I was President of a seminary that my head could be added to the other presidents that are already there. That’s the joke!

Hi Bruce,
I don’t know whether you will get this or not with the change in email address. I was in Jt Heirs this morning and you probably don’t know I was an employee of HPBC for the last 21 years. Now, like you, I am unemployed. Your message from Jeremiah was especially perfect for me. The familiar verses I have been trusting in for the last couple weeks but wondered about the context. Also, for the first time this morning I started thinking about my circumstances from a human view-point. I was trying to resist that but your message actually made me PRAY for those that brought about this situation. Thankfully, God controls my life not HPBC leadership. But I must also pray for them! Thank you. One last thing: the verse God gave me the night I was told my employment was terminated was Romans 15: 13 May the God of hope fill you with ALL joy and peace as you trust Him so that your HOPE may overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit. There’s that hope you mentioned this morning also. I will be praying for you.

Gail, Our situations are what they are. As we trust God for our comfort today and our service to Him tomorrow, He will honor our faith that is solely directed to Him. God bless you. Let’s pray each other through these challenging times.

My dear brother and wonderful friend/ ‘Bruce’:
I’m glad that I’m one of those friends that is loved with all your heart for over 30 years. True friendship is both of our passions knowing that this kind of friendship is given to one another ‘never-ever’ expecting anything in return: It’s always giving beyond measure; never ceasing in prayer in good times and troubled & testing times; always to be counted upon to be at the other’s side to carry the cross when it’s too hard to bear alone and, following the Lord’s pattern set for a “friendship like ours” founded & built upon “unfailing love”… especially knowing that it’s already “forever blessed” in the love of the Lord.
Much prayer and love….always– “everlastingly” your friend,
Bob Wong

Hi Cheri! Yeah, the frequent walks down memory lane remind us of the many blessings that God has given to us. But, it is so sad too since we have to chose to keep stuff, throw it away or give it away. Downsizing is essential since moving is so expensive and labor intensive. Reality sets in quickly. We don’t know where God is leading us yet. He knows. So we are trusting Him. Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Come back often. You are always welcome!

Hello Dr Fong,
It has been a long time since we have had a chance to visit. Life has been on a steady track. I have been to Iraq and back, Starr has been to Iraq and back. We are looking forward to her coming home to stay. Her time in the militray is coming to a close this month we hope. I have three more years to retirement. The Lord has blessed me this past year with a M.S. Degree and I am currently embarking on a new quest in a Doctoral Program with the University of Phoenix.
I have heard so many things about you, I am not sure where you are these days.
Glad to see you enjoy your motorcycle, I have one as well, it is not a Harley but it is a smooth ride for me.

Hi Pastor Bruce,
I listened to your message “Submission is for All to do” at Grace and was struck by the fact that when we refuse to submit to those in authority we are really punishing ourselves by missing out on God’s blessings!
This was further emphaized in a funny commericial I saw. I really think that when it comes to “Sticking it to the man” (or anyone) you are really “Sticking it to yourself”! Check ou the commercial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG-VB5xb6KM
I have really appreciated your teaching at Grace!
Thanks.

hey Pastor Bruce,
I noticed your current dig is Sunset Church in SF. I am reading your article from JETS 38, No.4 on “Addressing the Issue of Racial Reconciliation According to the Principles of Eph 2:11-22.” How do you think the principles you outlined in that article work itself out in a Chinese church context?
thanks!

Hi Keng, Thanks for your inquiry. I am delighted to be with Sunset Church. Thanks for reading my article. The principles outlined there are Scriptural. Like anything we learn from the Scriptures we must apply them and make any necessary changes. By popular use the ethnic link that describes a church has to be evaluated. A church needs to consider its name. If it matches the Biblical teachings of a local church, then great. If it by default controls who comes then that is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Bruce,
You had spoken to us(Chinese Baptist Church – Houston) at a retreat some time ago and many people still remember the great time we had with you. We were wondering if you would be available to speak at a weekend conference/revival sometime in October of this year or possibly early next year?

Dear Bruce,
Hi I’m one of the people that go to the church worship at Sunset. I am one of the 8th grade kids that go to the combined worship and ever since I started going to the combined worship, when you talk, it really moves me because you are able to talk about life and how the Lord was able to be with you. I just love the way you teach and write your blog. It inspires me to help continue to walk with the Lord. Sometimes, I might face some difficult problems with sin or with regular things in my life. I just need a person like you to pray for me for mercy and for God to have his Holy Spirit with me in those difficult times. Please continue spreading your the Gospel of the Lord. Your work has moved me and others. Bless you. 🙂

Bruce,
I was a student of yours at Multnomah, ’95-96 and am now working with International Students Inc. at the campus of Western Oregon University. It is a tremendous encouragement to find you on the World Wide Web. I was prepping for a talk I am to give at a men’s meeting. I thought of your messages for Promise Keepers at University of Oregon and was looking for them when I found your blog. Praise the Lord. Bless you. I see the Lord has, indeed, ENLARGED your territory.

Bruce, I am in China now where I came to teach ESL and attend the ISI yearly conference held for the first time in Hong Kong. Do you remember Corky Apilado? I know you do. Dr. Fong,
I been tremendously blessed by listening to your “Light the Night” messages that you shared at Moody in 2002. I caught a short part of the “An Awesome God” message that they replayed recently and it inspired me to purchase the entire Conference series. I’ve since shared yours and the other messages with family and friends.
I listen to all of the messages regularly as encouragement and inspiration.
May the Lord continue to bless you and your ministry.
Your brother in Christ,

I must tell you that I also have an old truck on which the windshield wipers quit working as you mentioned in your “Community in Christianity:Living in Harmony” message, and I drove it that way for over a year. Not as big of an issue in Tennessee as in Oregon. But I have since gotten them fixed! Your story cracked me up and inspired me to “just get it done” as you said in the message. Keep on keeping on for the Lord. Bless you brother.

Hi Dr. Fong,
My family just started attending Sunset Church a couple of weeks ago. We have been very impressed with the friendliness of the church and with your sermons. I truly appreciate the fact that you taught on a subject that most “modern” believers would rather skip over and not talk about. The Lord has blessed you with a great teaching ability.
You had mentioned last Sunday that you aren’t familiar with many of the faces in the sanctuary so I wanted to at least touch base and say hello. I’m sorry we couldn’t say hello in person last Sunday. Our children are still getting used to the nursery and sunday school so we rushed out to get them after service was done.
I hope that we can connect and get involved with the Church in the near future.
God bless!
Nathan

Dr Fong…
I left from your classes to Nigeria to continue what had begun. Still with the largest nomadic ethnic group in Africa, still considered unreached. Daily I sit at the battlefront, which is literal these days as you have no doubt heard. No regrets. Would have liked to taken wisdom lit and some other of your teachings. Have you published any class notes or anything? I am indebted to you for what I learned in your classes. I regularly recommend you as our conference speaker. The church is challenged by ethnicity, and sorcery is climbing back strongly into the hearts of our people. Immorality beats its drums everywhere and many dance to the tune. In heaven you will meed some wonderful people of God from this place, if not sooner. Judy Strand

Hello, Dr. Fong. Was fondly reminiscing recently about your fabulous classes at Multnomah Graduate School…yes, many years ago…and your pithy wisdom. Great to see you and your family flourishing. You will probably not remember me, but I did marry the guy with, as you put it, the “Bible rack in his pick-up”. We have four great kids, the oldest a senior in high (home) school. Thanks for being a part of my growth in Christ!

Hi, Pastor Fong,
I was at a Promise Keepers gathering in the LA Coliseum and heard you speak. You said somethings that have stayed with me to this day. You talked about how most people think that a great marriage should be 50:50, but rarely is. You asked us to ponder what a great marriage we would have if each member would try to do 55:55 or 60:60!!! I took those words to heart and shared them with my wife afterwards.
We have a wonderful marriage because it inspired us to do more than “my share.” We have raised 2 great children, homeschooled them all the way through. I retired 3+ years ago, and am still a youth leader at the age of 68 (currently in my 21st year). I have been blessed, my cup runneth over.!!
Thank you for those incredible words of wisdom!!

I think I’ve told you this before, but I just finished listening to a series of messages that you shared a Moody Founders Week Conference in 2002. The theme was “Light the Night”, and your messages were, “Forgiveness – Grace is Greater Than Sin”, “How Special Are We To God”, “Community in Christianity – Living in Harmony” and “An Awesome God”. I listen to them and the messages from the other speakers quite often as they are very inspiring.
I know the Lord is continuing to use you in a mighty way for His honor & glory and the advancement of the kingdom. I just wanted to share that again!
God Bless you brother!

Bruce,
What a joy to find you continue in your strong, uplifting, pithy style! During my year in the Multnomah Bible Certificate program (’93), I enjoyed writing down your wise little gems while taking notes in class. Another classmate collected many of them that year and presented them to you, as well as provided us all with copies. You teased me that year over my boyfriend who kept a Bible in his pickup truck. “Is it in a Bible rack?” (like a gun rack, right? ha. ha.)
That boyfriend and I have been married for 23 years this August, have four wonderful children whom we have homeschooled. I tell my kids, “I don’t regret my university degree, even though I never used it. But I have used what I learned at my year of Bible school every day of my life!” They are young, yet, and I pray they follow in the Way of their Savior!
It sounds like you continue to enjoy this amazing life with your bride and now SIX children and no doubt many grands, pointing everyone you meet toward the One to gives it all meaning. So wonderful to find you online and be reminded of a wonderful year at Multnomah. Thanks for being a part of my journey in the Lord!

Hi Kari! Thanks so much for saying, “Howdy!” Those Multnomah years were a huge blessing. Yvonne and I talk about them many times. God’s past blessings have a way of extending the joy over the years. Now, Yvonne is retired from teaching. She misses the little 2nd graders that were such a huge part of her life for so many years. I am now in my 8th year of serving the Lord at Dallas Theological Seminary – Houston campus. God is doing a very special work here in H-town. Please feel free to jump in on my Facebook page, Twitter, and or Instagram and you can reconnect with some Multnomah students as well as keep connected with the Family of Fong. Joy!
